2011 Sunfish/Centerboard Fun Race

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

Come out and join us for a fun race on Independence Day Weekend

  • Whether you have your own boat or not, everybody who can swim can participate in this centerboard boat race.

  • It's a great way to start the Independence Weekend Saturday, at noon, followed by a Happy Hour (BYOB) at 5, and a Shrimp Boil at 6, then fireworks (The Colony, Little Elm), at 9.30 p.m.
  • We will meet at the beach, in front of the Club House, on Saturday July 2nd, at noon.

  • The first start will be at around 1 p.m.; no race will start after 3.30

  • Bring your life vest, and plenty of water.

  • Owners of centerboard boats are asked to bring their own boats. The club will provide Sunfish and possibly 420s (if available).

    Races/Courses/Fleets

  • Race format, courses, fleets and teams will be determined on site, at noon, and depend on participation and available boats. Possible race formats:
  • Portsmouth handicap races
  • Fleet races (Sunfish, 420)
  • Sunfish Team Match races
  • Sunfish relay race
  • Possible courses: start will be at red/green buoys, in front of the clubhouse. Courses will be marked with temporary marks, in the area between permanent marks 1 and 4.

  • For relay races, special start and finish will be determined: on shore, close to the beach. The boats will be launched from the beach.

Registration
  • There is no registration fee, but registration is required, in order to determine participation and fleets.

  • OWNERS OF CENTERBOARD BOATS ARE PARTICULARLY ENCOURAGED TO SIGN UP SO THAT WE WILL HAVE ENOUGH BOATS AT HAND.

  • OWNERS who cannot participate that day are asked to provide their Centerboard Boats for use in the regatta. THANKS SO MUCH FOR CONSIDERING.

  • Registration must be submitted electronically through the on-line registration form.

  • There will be no awards, but recognition of teams, volunteers and champions during the HAPPY HOUR after the race, at 5 p.m.

Volunteers needed

The Fleet Captain asks for assistance in running the races: time-keeping, setting the race courses, preparing the boats before the race. Please contact Frank at: fheidlberger@yahoo.com, if you wish to volunteer as a race assistant.
