TAKE THE HELM WOMEN’S SAILING PROGRAM

The Take the Helm Women’s Sailing Program was developed by Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club members to provide opportunities for women to learn and enhance their sailing and boat handling skills while having fun and meeting others at the same time.

Our mission is to enrich the lives of women through education and access to the sport of sailing. Our program will:

  • Developing educational programs and venues for women
  • Act as the informational clearinghouse for women who sail
  • Enhance the life experiences of women through sailing
  • Support individuals and organizations that involve women in sailing

It is our goal to help women gain knowledge by learning advanced aspects of sailing, boat handling, race rules, concepts and tactics, and generally empowering women to achieve their personal goals when it comes to sailing and boat handling.

Take the Helm will offer on-the-water training and practice on various boats such as the 420, J/24, J/105, and other boats that will be made available. The on-the-water training and practice will include learning how to dock under power and sail, helm, trim sails, and boat handling.

Take the Helm will also provide classroom training, which will include learning the Racing Rules of Sailing, race aids (flags and marks), navigation rules, tactics, and sail trim, to name a few.

Take the Helm will endeavor to meet once a month for a social, classroom or on-the-water event.

Experience is not required to be part of the Take the Helm Women’s Sailing Program. There will be minimal fees for various events to help support the program. Your desire to learn and how much you learn will be up to you.
